WWE RAW Results – 8-8-11 – John Cena vs. CM Punk SummerSlam Contract Signing, Triple H And More!
By
It’s a go home edition of WWE RAW Show, live from San Jose, California – just 6 days before the big Pay Per view headlined by the big John Cena vs. CM Punk SummerSlam match to determine one undisputed WWE Champion!
WWE Raw opened up with Triple H, the new COO (well, it’s been several weeks now hasn’t it?) announcing that he will be the special guest referee for the John Cena vs. CM Punk match at SummerSlam to make sure that we have ONE undisputed WWE Champion!
Cena came out for the first match and had some ‘off mic’ words with Triple H who did not leave the ring yet. We couldn’t hear it clearly because Jim Ross was yapping. Jim Ross should’ve shut up while Triple H and John Cena were talking; it only sounded like something they wanted the TV audience to hear since they were talking so closely to the camera mic. Triple H said something to the effect of “Whatever happens at SummerSlam is because I want it to happen…”
After an advert break they replayed the conversation between Cena and Triple H without the commentary of Jim Ross. Michael Cole had to recap the conversation. Cena said to Triple H that this was an ‘ego thing’.
WWE Champion John Cena vs. Jack Swagger [non-title match]
After about 7 minutes of back and forth, Cena got Swagger with the five knuckle shuffle followed by the FU for the victory. . The announcers were still shocked regarding the opening of WWE Raw that featured the big announcement that Triple H is now the special guest referee for the John Cena vs. CM Punk Summerslam match.

After the advert break they showed highlights from the SummerSlam 1991 match for the WWE Intercontinental Title: WWE Hall Of Famer Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig (the Father of Michael McGillicutty). Hart was the first man to kick out of Perfect’s finisher ‘The Perfect Plex. After Hart knocked Perfect’s manager, Coach John Tolos from the apron he applied the Sharpshooter for the victory. This was Hart’s first reign as Intercontinental Champion and would be the first of many career title reigns.
We then went to a backstage promo with Alberto Del Rio. Scott Stanford began to introduce the Mexican aristocrat, but was interrupted by Aberto Del Rio’s personal ring announcer, Roberto Rodriguez. Del Rio called CM Punk a coward.
Next we go to a backstage interview. Josh Matthews asked R Truth why he took advantage of his former friend John Morrison. R Truth decided to answer a question with a question. Actually he Truth answered with a series of questions. Including, and I quote: ” Why do hot dogs come 10 to a pack when hot dog buns come 8 to a pack? There’s 2 buns missing. Why are there questions with no answers? Why did God create spiders? I’m glad you asked me that Josh….” He then went on to call John Morrison a spider and said that he was going to squash him.
Rey Misterio vs. The Miz
After another advert break Rey Misterio came out for his match against The Miz. Ross started talking about how Rey Misterio will soon be getting a WWE title re-match. Before Misterio got down the isle The Miz came out and attacked Misterio from behind, throwing him into the steel, uh – thing – located in front of the entrance way. At this point, Michael Cole decided that he was going to ask The Miz what this was all about in the ring. Miz delivered a promo saying that HE should be the one getting the most attention in the WWE right now. He added that he should be apart of SummerSlam. He reminded the WWE Universe that he is “the most must see WWE Champion in History”. He talked about being on the Teen Choice awards and doing many more talk shows for WWE. He said he attacked Misterio before the match officially started to get some attention. With Misterio ‘unable to continue’, ring announcer Justin Roberts announced that Triple H, the new COO, decided that rather than have The Miz win the match by forfeit, the Miz had to wrestle in a new match: against Kofi Kingston! Wow, Triple H sure does move fast. I wonder if the anonymous RAW GM would’ve done that.
The Miz vs. Kofi Kingston
During the match, Cole started going on about the Miz and John Cena being on the Teen choice awards in addition to his other upcoming appearances. Cole asked Ross if he saw it, Ross said that it was past his bedtime so he missed it. Cole then called out Ross on his bed-time claim pointing out that the Teen choice Awards came on before WWE RAW usually does. Ross said that he was just taking a nap after having skim milk and diet cookies with BBQ sauce. True story. Anyway, Miz won with the skull-crushing finale. Cole pushed that with this win, Miz solidified his claim that he should be apart of SummerSlam.
We return to WWE RAW with a backstage interview between Josh Matthews and CM Punk. Matthews asked Punk if he was surprised that Triple H announced that he will be the special guest referee during the John Cena vs. CM Punk Summer Slam match. CM Punk said that he wasn’t surprised because Triple H had a bigger ego than Vince McMahon.
CM Punk vs. Alberto Del Rio
After the advert break Alberto Del Rio’s Personal Ring Announcer Ricardo Rodriguez did what he does best. Michael Cole said “You know, this could very well be the best part of WWE RAW”. You know what? Some weeks, he could be right. Tonight’s show was a solid show, though. After Cole did a spot for TWIX he took another shot at JR saying that if they had some Twix JR would eat them all. Lawler added that there WERE Twix earlier and JR DID eat them all! Ross replied “Ok, so what if I did!”
Lots of CM Punk chants earlier on in the match. Real good ring-work here. In reality this is really a great match-up. On one end we have a man who was one of the most popular wrestlers in Mexico before coming to the WWE against one of the most popular indie wrestlers (CM Punk) before coming to the WWE. Punk got him with the Go-To Sleep after after the match.
Beth Phoenix vs. Eve Torres
Beth Phoenix wins this match.
They showed clips from the Teen Choice awards where John Cena and The Miz presented an award for Glee. Justin Beiber and other actors were shown.
Dolph Ziggler w/ Vickie Guerrero vs. Alex Riley
Alex Riley said that it smelled like ‘Death itself took a dump in your Mouth”. Vickie then slapped Alex Riley causing the ref to DQ Ziggler. Vickie & Ziggler argued before and after the match. Then Vickie left Ziggler.
R Truth vs.John Morrison
Really good match here. John Morrison continues to always be one of the highlights of WWE RAW. R Truth did get the victory.
Christian the World Champion did a promo via the Titan Tron saying that he’s got an announcement to make on Smackdown
They send us to the back where Triple H and Johnny Ace (John Laurinaitis) lare ooking over paperwork before the come out to the ring for the WWE John Cena vs. CM Punk SummerSlam match contract signing. Jerry Lawler warned us not to adjust our TV set there were indeed TWO WWE World titles. Whew, thanks King. He stopped me from adjusting my TV set.
CM Punk sat down and said that these contract signings on WWE RAW always end in a brawl. So instead he wanted to be entertaining. Punk then said that he had a clip to show that explained how he felt about John Cena. He said that it wasn’t a clip from Triple H’s movie, the Chaperone. Triple H rebutted by asking CM Punk “How was your movie?” Punk alertly snapped back “Mine went straight to DVD, just like yours” Crowd liked that one. I liked that one. John Laurinaitis (Johnny Ace) liked that one. Not sure if Triple H liked it so much. Punk cut to a clip of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson running down John Cena. Great clip. You can see the clip on Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Facebook. Cena fired back saying that maybe he’s a modern day Hulk Hogan being a company man and all. A man who’s from ‘The System’. John Cena then went on about things that he can do to improve his game, like increasing his workrate and letting his “heel persona shine through”. Then he went on about the analogy that CM Punk made about Cena being the New York Yankees then somehow brought it around to him caring about the people. Cena said that Punk needed to look in the mirror to find a phoney. Then Triple H jumped in saying that CM Punk was a gutless phoney for not explaining his contract demands in person – instead he CALLED. This, with John Lauranaitis, or “Funk Man”, in referance to Lauranait’s likeness to the ‘Curb Your Enthusiam’ character – set up Punk to come at Mr. Johnny Ace for firing DH Smith, Vladimir Kozlov and Chris Masters via telephone, like he does all of his future endeveors. For those who do not know, John Lauranaitis is actually the brother of Road Warrior Animal of former WWE Tag Team Champions Legion Of Doom. So, with that statement he called both Triple H & Johnny Ace ‘phony’. This was a really good segment. Punk and Cena went back and forth for a few more minutes before finally signing the big contract.
So NOW it’s official! John Cena vs. CM Punk for the undisputed WWE Championship at Summerlam! After the dust cleared the two were going to go at it. Johnny Ace stepped in the middle to break it up and got an accidental kick to the head by CM Punk for his troubles. Triple H got hit by John Cena, inadvertantly of course as well. WWE Raw went off the air with CM Punk staring at John Cena and Triple H in the ring seeing this as some sort of alliance against the Voice of the voiceless.
