WWE Smackdown 1/15/10
From Green Bay, Wisconsin
Announcers: Todd Grisham and Matt Striker

We begin tonight’s show with a look back at the many attempts to find out who will face the Undertaker for the World Title at the Royal Rumble only to see no winner determined. Who will emerge from the confines of the steel cage as the number one contender?

We see the cage above the ring as Grisham discusses the main event.

Chris Jericho walks to the ring and he has a bruise on his face and we see why as we go to footage from this week’s Raw when Mike Tyson knocked Jericho out.

Jericho has something to say before his match. He says that everyone can wipe the smug looks off their mealy mouth faces. He says that despite what everyone just saw, he is not a broken man. DX might have pulled another fast one on him, but he will not crawl into a hole and go away. A punch drunk, mentally unstable man got in a lucky punch and knocked him down, it does not affect the fact that he is the best in the world. Jericho says that he is the baddest man on the planet as well as the face of Smackdown. Jericho says that he will continue his successful career when he defeats 29 other men at the Royal Rumble. He says that he will go on to Wrestlemania 26 and he will win the main event to become the World Champion for the sixth time. Then he will have the smug look on his face while the tapeworms in the crowd will be the smug ones.

Match Number One: Chris Jericho versus John Morrison

Jericho has something to say to Morrison before the match starts and he pushes Morrison. Morrison responds with a slap to the bruise on Jericho’s face. Morrison clotheslines Jericho over the top rope to the floor. Morrison goes to the turnbuckles and we see Drew McIntyre come out as Morrison returns to the ring without continuing to go after Jericho. Morrison stares at McIntyre as Drew walks to the ring. Morrison with a clothesline to Jericho and follows that with kicks and punches. Jericho with a forearm to Morrison followed by a punch. Morrison with a kick and a back breaker followed by a side Russian leg sweep for a near fall. Morrison with an Irish whip and he tries for the springboard round kick but Jericho pushes Morrison over the top rope to the floor. Jericho goes to the floor and he kicks Morrison and then sends him back into the ring. Jericho with a slingshot splash for a near fall. Jericho with a snap mare and then he puts Morrison in a reverse chin lock with the arm isolated. Morrison punches Jericho and then he Irish whips Jericho but runs into a boot. Jericho goes to the turnbuckles but he comes off into a punch. Morrison with a clothesline and drop kick. Morrison with a Shining Wizard for a near fall. Morrison with punches but Jericho with a kick and a bulldog. Jericho tries for a Lionsault but lands on his feet after Morrison moves. Morrison with the springboard round kick for a near fall. Morrison with a kick to the chest but he tries again and Jericho blocks it and takes Morrison down and tries to put him in the Walls of Jericho but Morrison powers out of the hold. Jericho charges into the corner but Morrison moves and Jericho hits the ring post. Morrison goes to the turnbuckles and he tries for the split legged moonsault but he lands on his feet when Jericho moves. Jericho tries for the cover but Morrison with a rollup for a near fall. Morrison with a forearm and punch. Jericho sends Morrison into the mat and he gets a near fall. Jericho punches Morrison and Morrison tries for the swinging neck breaker but Jericho counters and finally gets Morrison into the Walls of Jericho. Morrison tries for the ropes and McIntyre gets up from his seat and that enrages Morrison as he gets to the ropes. Morrison punches Jericho and then goes to the apron briefly. Jericho hits the Codebreaker and gets the three count.
Winner: Chris Jericho

After the match, McIntyre goes into the ring and he stands over Morrison and holds the belt in Morrison’s face and then he walks across Morrison’s chest.

We go to commercial.

We are back and it is time for CM Punk to save someone’s soul. Punk is joined by Luke Gallows and the ‘Straight Edge Chair’. We see the footage from last week when Punk saved and shaved James. Punk says that last week he showed everyone that it was possible. He took one of the people who was confused, lost, and addicted to a litany of things. Punk says that he saved that person and allowed him to lead a better life. Punk says that he is the leader of a Straight Edge Society. Punk says that he will not stop until everyone pledges to stand on his side. Punk says that he remembers the first time he laid his eyes on Luke and he says that Luke acted a lot like everyone in the crowd does today. He was half-comatose from prescription medication, but look at him now. Punk says that Luke is an example for everyone as long as you want it.

Luke says that he knows how hard change can be. When you wake up in the morning and need a pill just to start your day, you feel like you need something to help you live. He says that you don’t need that as long as you are straight edge.

Punk thanks Luke for the comments. Then Punk says that he will continue to enlighten the hopelessly addicted. Punk says that the Royal Rumble will be the first step in salvation because when he wins to become the first Straight Edge Royal Rumble match winner, it will be an accomplishment. An accomplishment not only for him, but for society. Punk says that what sucks is that nobody is smart enough to be saved so it has to be done one person at a time. Punk wonders who will be the lucky one to be saved.

They find a man in the crowd and Luke goes to bring him into the ring. Punk has him sit down and asks him his name and it is Trevor. Punk tells Trevor not to be afraid because he is among friends. Punk clarifies and says that he means Luke and himself. Punk talks about everything that his former friends tried to do to seduce him with drugs and alcohol. Punk asks Trevor if he is ready to make a pledge. Punk tells Trevor that he is about to be reborn. Before the ceremony can continue, Punk asks Trevor how many drinks he has had this year. Trevor says that he cannot remember how many. Punk tells everyone that he has not ingested any rat poison this year because it is poison. Punk tells the crowd not to cheer for any mentions of alcohol or beer. Punk says that Trevor is man enough to take responsibility for his actions. Punk wants to hear if Trevor is ready to accept straight edge. Trevor says that he is ready to accept straight edge into his life. Punk wants to know if Trevor is ready to show his devotion through actions as well as words. Trevor says yes. Punk gets the straight edge clippers and Trevor’s head is shaved.

Punk tells Trevor that this is the only good decision that he ever made. He says that not only has he shed his hair, he has shed a lifetime of depravity and addiction. There will be no more weakness for Trevor. Punk says that there is one more person who is better than everyone else in the building.

The Great Khali comes out and he is joined by Matt Hardy and Runjin Singh and they dance their way to the ring because we will have a fatal four way tag team match to see who faces DX.

Match Number Two: Great Khali and Matt Hardy with Runjin Singh versus CM Punk and Luke Gallows versus Cryme Tyme versus Tyson Kidd and David Hart Smith with Natalya in a Number One Contender Fatal Four Way Match

Hardy and Smith start things off and Smith with a kick and punch to Hardy. Hardy is sent into Kidd’s boot and then Smith with a forearm to Hardy followed by a European uppercut. Hardy hits the screaming elbow from the turnbuckles and then Khali with a big boot to Smith and a clothesline that sends Smith over the top rope to the floor. Khali goes to the floor and Smith hides behind Natalya and then Kidd comes to Smith’s aid. Hardy surrounds Smith and Kidd on the other side and we have a stand off. We go to commercial.

We are back and Gallows and Khali are in the ring and Luke punches Khali but Khali with a clothesline. Khali with the chop and then he waits for Gallows to get up but he is too close to Cryme Tyme’s corner and JTG makes the tag and gets a near fall as Khali walks by and does nothing to break up the cover. Luke with a side slam and then he sends JTG into the turnbuckles and then tags in Punk. Punk kicks JTG in the corner and punches him. JTG with the flip shoulder tackle and a clothesline followed by a drop kick. JTG with an X Factor for a near fall that is broken up by Gallows and Kidd. Khali gets into the ring too and he pushes Kidd and Gallows over the top rope. Smith and Shad send Khali over the top rope to the floor. Smith kicks Shad and throws him out of the ring. Khali pulls Smith out of the ring. Hardy goes up top and he this a cross body onto a few of the guys. In the ring, Punk tries for the Go to Sleep but JTG gets out of the hold and Punk kicks JTG. Gallows makes the blind tag but JTG hits the wraparound clothesline on Punk. The referee tells JTG that he will not make the count because of the tag and Gallows with a boot to the head. Gallows with the spinebuster slam for the three count.
Winners: CM Punk and Luke Gallows

After the match, Trevor comes into the ring to celebrate with Punk and Luke and he raises their hands.

Josh Mathews knocks on Batista’s door and he emerges. Josh apologizes for the interruption and wants to know if Batista will talk about the perceived advantage that he has over Rey in their match tonight. Batista says that he does not want to talk about that and he does not want to talk about Rey. Josh reminds Batista that if he wins, he will face the Undertaker and asks Batista if he is intimidated by the Undertaker. Batista asks if he looks intimidated and he has nothing to say about Taker. Batista ends the interview and he tells Josh that if he knocks on the door or asks another question . . .

We go to commercial.

We are back and the Undertaker’s music plays and he makes his way to the ring. Undertaker says that the dawning of a new decade brings new hopes and dreams to the superstars of the WWE Universe. He says that they should make no mistake about the fact that the darkness of the Undertaker will continue to collect souls as he has done for the last two decades. He says that last week Batista and Mysterio felt his presence. It was a warning that they will only get once. He says that it doesn’t really matter who wins tonight because he says that he is hell-bent on destruction. Whoever survives the cage will not survive him at the Royal Rumble. Taker turns his attention to Wrestlemania and the legend of the Undertaker. Taker says that seventeen men have stepped up and seventeen have been sent down. All of the fallen warriors but one have tested his fate and asked for no more. He says that there is one who has shined brightly in defeat and that was Shawn Michaels. Taker tells Shawn that he came closer than anyone else who challenged him. He says that Shawn almost broke the streak, but he failed. On Monday, Shawn had the audacity to challenge him to a rematch. Taker says that he has made a decision. He will go to Raw on Monday and give Shawn his answer personally. Taker says that regardless of his decision, Shawn will rest in peace.

We go to commercial.

Randy Orton Strikes Again

Posted by: Mean Mike The Spike | Comments (1)

Randy Orton

Saugus - World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Randal “Randy” Orton is accused of allegedly spitting gum in the face of a 15 year old juvenile and swearing at him outside Kowloon Restaurant.

Yesterday, 12 Jan 10 the 15-year-old male officially reported that Orton, 29, assaulted him in the Kowloon parking lot on Friday 8 Jan.

The young man  alleged that Orton, a former WWE World Heavyweight champion, reacted angrily to a simple request for a photo at the Route 1 restaurant.

The teenager explained that he took a photo of Orton in the car park and then asked to pose with him for another shot.

Orton responded by spitting his gum at him and called him a derogatory name.

The teen’s mother confronted Orton. Orton, apparently responded “so sue me” when she voiced her disdain.

Kowloon is a frequent stop for wrestlers and other athletes who perform in the Boston area. The legendary restaurant has a photo display on a wall featuring dozens of celebrities who stopped by for a meal.

Well then, guess I won’t be asking Orton for an autograph anytime soon.

What do you think about this?

Randy Orton came out, of course, with his own microphone interrupting the staredown between the baddest man on the planet and the man with the baddest tan in the planet. After Orton demanded that Tyson make him the #1 contender for the WWE title, Cena came to the ring. Yes, Cena had his own mic. Cena said that he beat Mike Tyson. Well first he had to go through Glass Joe, King Hippo (twice), Piston Honda, Super Macho Man and then spent the next two years trying to beat Mike Tyson. Jerry Lawler was nice enough to let the fans at home know that he was talking about Mike Tyson’s Punch Out circa 1985 Nintendo. Kofi Kingston came out next. He said that he had no business being out there. Yeah, good way to get him over by ‘admitting’ that he’s not in the same league with the others. Fans were rapid. Kingston actually stopped when they were chanting ‘Cena sucks’. Anyway after all three guys came out for a short, Sheamus decided that he deserves the night off. So Iron Mike decided that Von Kaiser, Bald Bull and John cena would go at it in a 3 way match with the winner to face Soda Popinksi at the Royal Rumble for the championship match.

Alicia Fox d. Kelly Kelly in the first round of the WWE Diva’s Championship match.

Ted Dibiase Jr. & Cody Rhodes d. Marc Henry & Evan Bourne
Ted Dibiase Jr. & Cody Runnels came out to argue about which one of them will win the Royal Rumble. Dibiase said that even though Cody’s Father (Dusty Rhodes) said that he had the looks of a movie star, that he WAS actually a movie star. He said the Marine 2 is world’s better than the original Marine. The Marine 2, staring Ted Dibiase is available on DVD and Blu-Ray. Runnels said that his 5th grade graduation video was better than the original Marine. They were interrupted by the Kool-Aid Man Mark Henry and Evan Bourne, their opponents. During the match, Jerry Lawler talked more, but his voice was clearly giving out.

DX talks in the back, and HHH says Bret Hart was one thing but Mike Tyson? Shawn says he made peace with Bret Hart after 12 years, and now wants to do the same with Mike Tyson. HHH says Tyson is insane, certifiable, and he’s the man who knocked Shawn out for four years. Shawn says that’s the media talking, and he thinks he’s a changed man. He’s going to prove it.

Shawn stops by Mike Tyson’s office, and says after last week he and Bret got closure. Tonight he wants to take the opportunity to have that same closure with Mike. He wants Tyson to know that he forgives him for knocking him out at Wrestlemania XIV. Tyson says the problem is he doesn’t need Shawn’s forgiveness, and he’s love to knock him out again. Jericho stops by to reinforce the fact that Tyson doesn’t like him, and that he doesn’t like him. Shawn asks why Jericho is here, because he was kicked off Raw. Jericho says he was able to get Tyson’s number, because they’re kindred spirits. They’ve both been oppressed by the unwashed masses, and “the man.” Jericho says he got a deal that says DX has a match tonight, and if they lose that match Jericho gets a free pass to be on whatever show he wants. Tyson says the match will be DX vs. Jericho and Tyson. Shawn says that’s fine because he still owes Tyson one. Tyson says he’s looking for the payment.

We return to the announce table, where Michael Cole embarrassingly marks out for the return of Tyson to the ring before throwing us to a recap of Raw is Bret.

In rong Promo: Jack Swagger says he’s going to win the Royal Rumble. Maybe next he’ll say hi to his boyfriend Mike, because he has about as good as shot as that cameraman. He says the Rumble is tailor made for someone like him, but since last year he was defending the ECW title he’s never been in a Royal Rumble. He guarantees us (x3) that no one on any show can beat him. He’s issuing an All American American American American Challenge that if anyone can throw him over the top rope to come out and try. Santino comes out and says that’s a coincidence, because he was about to come out and issue the All Italian Italian challenge. He wants to know how we settle this, and says they’ll face off right now. He tells Swagger he’ll drop him like a bicycle with no kickstand, and orders the ref to ring the bell.

Over the Top Rope Challenge:
Jack Swagger vs. Santino Marella

Swagger dominates Santino right away driving him into the buckle, and hitting a Vader Bomb. Swagger goes to dump Santino, but he holds onto the top rope and Swagger goes over the top at 0:53! SANTINO WINS! SANTINO WINS! SANTINO WINS! Swagger goes after Santino, but Santino sets a new WWE 40 yard dash record heading to the back.

winner: Santino Marella

WWE Championship #1 Contender Triple Threat Match:
Randy Orton vs. Kofi Kingston vs. John Cena

Orton attacks Cena at the bell, but gets knocked back by Kofi. Cena whips Orton to the corner, and then he and Kofi team up for a double suplex. Kingston hits a Stinger Splash, and delivers a European upper cut. Cena delivers a fisherman’s suplex, and Kingston delivers a pair of forearms sending Orton to the floor. Cena goes out after Orton and fires him back inside. Kofi and Cena deliver a double back elbow, and Cena hits an elbow drop. Kingston fires Orton to the floor, and turns to look at Cena. They face off as Sheamus wanders out to the stage and catches their eye. That allows Orton to slither inside to attack the faces from behind. Orton stomps on both guys as we head to commercial. We return with Orton controlling Kofi with a side headlock as Cena lays prone on the floor. Orton catches Cena coming inside, and delivers a hangman’s DDT. Kofi has recovered though and dives off the top with a flying crossbody off the top rope. Kofi delivers a series of kicks, and then a dropkick. Orton reverses an Irish Whip into an inverted backbreaker, but Cena is back now with a running bulldog. Cena charges at Orton, but misses and shoulderblocks the ringpost. Here’s Kofi now with the SOS for two, and a kick to the face sets up a boom drop attempt. Cena hits a drop toehold as Kingston hits the ropes, and locks in an STF. Orton makes the save, but Cena comes right back with a pair of flying shoulderblocks. Cena hits a protoplex, and connects with the five knuckle shuffle. Cena goes for the Attitude Adjustment, but Kofi stops that and delivers a jumping clothesline. Kofi connects with the boom drop to Cena, and calls for the Trouble in Paradise which connects but knocks Cena to the floor. Kofi hops to the second rope and delivers a series of right hands to Orton.

Cody Rhodes is out and delivers a dropkick to the ringsteps taking out Cena. He then distracts the referee long enough for Dibiase to run out and knock Kofi from the top rope saving Orton. Orton then connects with an RKO to finish at 11:15. So the Legacy tension is on hold for now, until Orton doesn’t show proper gratitude for the help I’d assume. Orton stares down Sheamus after the match.

winner: Randy Orton

Backstage: Josh Mathews talks to Mike Tyson by his match, but he’s quickly interrupted by Hornswoggle. Tyson says if he sees Swoggle tonight during the match he’s going tear his intestines out and jump rope with it. Then he’s going to put his fingers up his nostrils and pull his brain out before putting it against the newspaper and smash it against the window like silly putty. So he tells Swoggle to just move on and he hopes he doesn’t see him tonight. Swoggle backs off in fear. The entire IWC just became massive Tyson fans.

The Miz is outside the WWE Superstars Locker Room: He says when he showed up no one in the WWE locker room or WWE Universe respected him. He says they made his life a living hell, and in that locker room he got kicked out for eating a piece of chicken and spilling crumbs over a referee’s bag. He said he would see WWE Superstars like JBL (including a great JBL imitation), and says everyone wanted rid of him. He says used that negativity to fuel him to ignite a wrath against everyone in WWE today. Now he doesn’t even go in that locker room, as he has his own private dressing room. That dressing room is for the Evan Bourne’s and MVP’s.

He makes his way to the arena & inside the ring: The Miz he says the same MVP who is the number one contender for the US Championship. He says MVP has joined a long list of people to get publically humiliated by him. Miz says MVP doesn’t even deserve to be in the same ring as him, and if it was up to him MVP would still be in jail. He doesn’t believe in second chances because he has been perfect his entire life. He says the fans still boo him, and cheer him. He says that’s okay because he’s rather them boo him for what he is than cheer for him for something he’s not. He’s the reason we watch Raw, and he’s the most captivating star on the show. He says MVP has all the bling, and that’s great but let’s face fact. You can put diamonds on a dog, but it’s still a mut. He tells the “mistakes” (fans) they will respect him, because he’s the Miz and he’s awesome. MVP comes out and says the WWE Universe knows all about his history, and he’s never run from it. In fact he’s embraced it because he doesn’t want people to make the same mistakes he did. He says he does have a taste for the finer things in life, but he earned all of it. He says he worked hard to earn the respect of WWE Universe and that is something Miz hasn’t done. He says he has worked hard to call himself a superstar in this circus we call WWE. He says we are all animals in this circus, but he assures Miz he’s no mut. He tells Miz to excuse him for a moment, and he can just stand there and suck.

MVP takes off his jacket, and tells Miz he’s a Bengal tiger while Miz is a monkey flinging poop. Miz says he might just fling some that hits his lips so MVP can taste what comes out of his mouth. MVP says Miz might think he’s tame because he likes the finer things in life, and because he’s now fan friendly. He dares Miz to go ahead and fling it, and then decides to go over his past. MVP says he acted like an animal, and was treated like one. He tells Miz that he survived a life that he’s only saw on TV, and dares him to open up the cage and find out just how tame this tiger really is. Miz starts to go for him, but MVP beats him to the punch and a brawl commences. MVP delivers a flying forearm and a drive by kick sending Miz to the floor.

A look back at last year’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony, and the announcement that tickets go on sale next week:

WWE Diva’s Championship Tournament First Round:
Eve Torres vs. Katie Lea Burchill

Katie Lea gets the jobber entrance as if this result was in a doubt, and Maryse joins the commentary team. Katie Lea grabs a bow and arrow, and then delivers a backbreaker for two. Katie delivers a spin kick, but Eve ducks a clothesline and delivers one of her own for two. Katie comes back a forearm, but a backdrop is blocked by a kick. Eve hits a dropkick, but misses a flipping legdrop at two. Eve then rolls up Katie out of nowhere to pick up the pin at 1:53. This match stunk like hot garbage.

winner: Eve Torres

Backstage: Carlito talks to Gail Kim and putting the moves on her as Vince walks by:

Vince is out and he wants to put an end to the rumors that he has hired extra security because he’s scared of Bret. Bret Hart isn’t here tonight, because Bret is intimidated. Vince says twelve years ago, Bret screwed Bret, but last week he screwed Bret. He said last week Bret wanted to play nice, and put the past behind him, but Vince doesn’t play nice. He says he doesn’t forget and doesn’t forgive. He said if Bret wanted closure he got it lying on the mat humbled and humiliated by Vince. Vince says if he wants closure again, he won’t get it because Bret will never, ever, be seen in the WWE again. Well that’s it, the rumors were all wrong, Bret will never be back. Ever. I mean, why would Vince lie?

Don Johnson and Jon Heder co-host Raw next week. Well the Guest Host’s just took a big step back.

D-Generation X vs. Chris Jericho & Mike Tyson

Triple H asks Shawn if he’s ready, and Shawn says he’s ready for an answer. He calls out Undertaker to give him an answer next week on Raw on if he will face him at Wrestlemania. Shawn starts the match with Tyson, and they lock up with Tyson throwing him away. After a few times Shawn gets frustrated, and runs into a shoulderblock from Tyson. Shawn finally tags out to HHH who stares down Tyson in the middle of the ring. Tyson backs HHH into the corner on the lockup, and finally Jericho tags into the match so we can actually see something other than a lockup. Jericho whips HHH into the ropes, but he goes for the pedigree which Jericho blocks. Shawn gets a right hand from the apron, and Jericho delivers a knee to the face. Tag to Shawn who delivers an inverted atomic drop, and they follow with a series of near fall sequences. Jericho goes for the Walls, but Shawn pushes him off and rolls him for two.

Jericho is able to get to Tyson, and tag in but here comes Hornswoggle in full on boxing gear as he wants a piece of Tyson. Tyson barely able to stop laughing tags out to Jericho, and then removes his shirt revealing a DX shirt to the surprise of absolutely no one. Jericho gets an ominous look on his face as he even knows what’s coming, and turns around long enough to get knocked the fuck out by Tyson. Shockingly Shawn, not HHH, covers Jericho and picks up the pin at 4:43. If you didn’t see that coming you’ve never watched wrestling, ever. After the match HHH brings Tyson’s son into the ring, and they all deliver DX chops for the Sportscenter moment as we’re out for the night.

Hello everyone and welcome to Monday Night RAW for January 4, 2010. We are live from the Nutter Center in Dayton, OH so lets get into it. A Bret Hart video package was shown to open the show. Bret “The Hit Man” Hart was introduced as tonight’s special guest host as he makes his way down to the ring.

Bret Hart opens by saying “Well I guess hell froze over”. He says that its been 12 years since he’s been back and it’s an amazing feeling. He says Vince always declined and told him it wasn’t possible for him to come back when he brought it up and tried to come back in the past. A LOUD “one more match” chant breaks out. He says “thank you” to all the fans for letting him not be forgotten. He owes everything to the WWE Universe and he thanks them again. He starts talking about memories and winning his first King of the Ring match and then Jerry Lawler jumping him afterward.

He then says he has another reason he’s there and he wants to get some things off his chest. The first thing is that he wants Shawn Michaels to come out! HBK’s entrance hits and here he comes! Shawn gets in the ring and goes face to face with Shawn Michaels. Bret then says he wants to bury the hatchet and call a truce right now. Shawn grabs a mic and says that before Bret gets his closure, he’s been waiting 12 years to say that Bret deserved what happened in Montreal. He says Bret disrespected him and the business and yes, he did have a hand in what Vince did that night. A loud “You screwed Bret” chant breaks out and Bret says that because of that, he rests his case.

Shawn says there’s a big part of him that doesn’t regret a bit of it. However, there’s another part of him that knows in the last 12 years, a lot of things in his life have changed. He says that he always respected Bret, but feels Bret didn’t respect him. There were times that he couldn’t stand the sight of Bret and he knows the feeling is mutual. When he thinks of Bret Hart, he doesn’t think of Montreal. He thinks of Anaheim, California - a 60 minute Ironman Match that no one thought the fans would want to see. But Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels went out there and did it. When Shawn thinks of Bret Hart, he thinks of the “Excellence of Execution”. Shawn tells Bret he’s not the only one who wants to move on. The last thing he has to say is are you sure and are you ready?

Bret then says being honest, Shawn wasn’t the easiest guy to love back then either. But he says Shawn’s right, their careers shouldn’t be hung on Montreal and tonight, they should take this opportunity to say that the two of them could be friends. He puts his hand out and wants Shawn to call a truce and bury the hatchet right now. The crowd boos, but Shawn shakes his hand. The crowd cheers..or at least some of them. Shawn starts to leave then he turns back and hugs Bret.

After all that Bret says there’s one more thing he wants to ask and before he can he needs Vince McMahon to come out there and face him too. As Bret is waiting for McMahon, Cole and Lawler briefly talks about the matches later for tonight as we head to commercial break.

Backstage: When we come back, Josh Matthews is waiting by Vince McMahon’s door when Vince shows up. Apparently, McMahon was in a meeting and didn’t hear Bret call him out. If Bret wants a public meeting, that’s fine with him, but he’ll do it on his terms later tonight when he calls Bret out. We then start the first match of the Diva Championship tournament.

Maryse vs. Brie Bella

They lock up and Maryse quickly goes to the ropes to fre herself. Brie grabs her and takes her to the corner and chokes her out with her leg. She then starts swinging her around by her hair, followed by a dropkick. Maryse rolls to the outside, but Nikki Bella takes her head and bounces it off the announce table. Cover attempt, but a two count. Maryse takes over offense after grabbing Brie’s hair and slamming her down. Pin, but two count. As the ref gets distracted, Nikki rolls in to the ring and switches out with Brie. It didn’t help though as Maryse hits the French Kiss and gets the three count. (The replay shows Maryse seeing the switch, so she wasn’t fooled).

winner: Maryse

After The Match: The Miz comes out as Maryse is walking back up the ramp. He tells Maryse that if she wins the tournament, he might actually call her back. He says he has to go now and scout his next opponent, but first, he’s been hearing her say that 2010 is the year of Maryse. He wants to make clear that this year, this decade, every year going forward it belongs to him because he’s the Miz and he’s awesome. The Miz joins the announce booth as MVP will be facing Jack Swagger, Mark Henry & Carlito in a Fatal Fourway match up next.

MVP vs. Jack Swagger vs. Mark Henry vs. Carlito

We’re back from break and the match is underway. Mark Henry is on the outside. Swagger and Carlito are going at it. Swagger hits a slam, tries for a cover, but MVP breaks it up. Swagger then turns his attention to MVP and goes for a cover. Carlito breaks it up. Swagger swings Carlito to the corner and swings MVP into him. He charges them both, but MVP moves and he hits Carlito instead. Henry then comes in and slams Swagger. He throws MVP over the top rope to the outside. He then goes after Swagger and Carlito taking them both out. He picks up Carlito and uses him to kick Swagger and then follows it up with a bearhug on Carlito until Swagger breaks it up. Not for long though as Henry takes Swagger up to his shoulders. Carlito then comes and breaks it up and MVP follows with kicking Henry out of the ring. He hits his finisher on Swagger and gets the pin.

winner: MVP

Backstage: Jericho and Big Show are talking. Big Show tells him how important it is that they win tonight so Jericho won’t have to leave Raw. Jericho says he has a plan that Bret Hart can’t pass up and he heads to talk to him.

We’re back as Jericho meets up with Bret backstage. Jericho talks about their history and says that he saw his lovefest that he had earlier with HBK. He says that he knows deep down Bret despises Shawn and he has an idea. He wants Bret to be the special guest referee in their match with DX. In fact, he can screw Shawn just like Shawn did him. Bret says that everything he said out there was real and he doesn’t want to be like Chris a hypocrite. He tells Jericho that if he wants to stay on Raw, he has to win the match all by himself.

Elsewhere, Hornswoggle & Triple H as they promote WWE action figures. Shawn then stops by and asks Hunter why he talks to Hornswoggle like a child…he’s got a beard says Shawn. Hunter says that while Shawn was out there with Bret, he was back here focusing on their match. Santino comes in dressed like Jericho and starts mocking him about conspiracies. He then tells Hornswoggle to attack and he jumps on Santino. Hunter tells Shawn that tonight isn’t about Bret or Undertaker it’s about JeriShow and the tag team titles. He then calls for Hornswoggle like a dog and gives him a cookie when he comes. They walk off and we see a beaten Santino with his wig falling off.

Tag Team Championship:
DX vs JeriShow

Hornswoggle climbs from under the ring & did a couple posses then went back under after the bell rung. Shawn and Big Show start the match off with Big Show taking the early advantage. Shawn makes a quick tag though and they try a double suplex, but Show reverses. They go out of the ring and we go to commercial break.

We are back and JeriShow has the advantage. Big Show comes in and Hunter tries to take control with a knee drop, but Big Show hits a sidewalk slam. Big Show then steps on Hunter’s chest, hits a leg drop and goes for a cover but only gets a two count. He keeps pounding Hunter with headbutts before tagging in Jericho. Jericho comes in and steps on the back of Hunter’s neck while he’s on the second ropes. He taunts the crowd (and TNA) by doing the Hogan ear motion toward the crowd. He applies an armbar headlock and Hunter slowly rises back to his feet. Jericho charges, but Hunter nails the spinebuster.

They both go for the tag, but Hunter can’t make his before Big Show comes and stomps on him. He hits a bodyslam and goes to the second rope. He tries a splash, but Hunter moves. Hunter makes the hot tag and he comes in firing on Show with chops. He then hits some running shoulder blocks, but Big Show won’t go down. He does a dropkick to the legs and he finally does. Shawn hits Jericho off the apron and then goes to the top turnbuckle. Before he can leap, Jericho comes up and hits him to where he straddles the top rope. Hornswoggle runs in and frogsplashes Big Show. Shawn goes for a cover, but only gets two.

He fires up the band in the corner, but Show catches his leg and delives a huge chokeslam. Pin, but only a two count. Jericho gets tagged in and tries his moonsault, but HBK puts his knees up. He tags in Hunter and Hunter hits the Pedigree. Cover, but Big Show breaks it up. He picks Shawn up for a chokeslam, but Hunter breaks it up. They double Pedigree Show and he rolls out. After The Match: Hunter gets on the mic and tells Chris it’s over for him on Raw. Shawn then says that if he’s not down with that, they have two words for him (Suck it !!).

Backstage: Randy Orton. Orton says he has an offer for McMahon. He doesn’t know how McMahon plans on confronting Bret, but…Vince cuts him off and says that Bret spitting in his face is nothing compared to what Randy Orton has done to him and his family. Orton says even still, what he does to Kofi tonight is nothing compared to what he will do to Bret. McMahon asks what’s in it for him. He wants the #30 spot in the Royal Rumble. McMahon says that he has his own security and don’t ever confront him again. Orton starts walking off and he’s met by Legacy. They tell him “thank you” for last week and they want to return the favor. If he doesn’t beat Kofi Kingston tonight, they will kick him out of Legacy and beat the hell out of him.

Sheamus comes out and says that last week, John Cena couldn’t beat him. He can make all the excuses he wants, but Sheamus did exactly what he said he would. The last image was him standing over Cena’s body, still WWE Champion. He says his next title match is at the Royal Rumble and he will not be defending it against John Cena. He wants a new challenge. He says that Bret was right when he said he’s the best there ever was. The best there ever is and the best there ever will be belongs to him. Evan Bourne then interupts and comes out. He takes the mic from Sheamus and rolls out of the ring. He says that the only reason Sheamus has that title is that someone gave him the opportunity. He says that he knows he can beat Sheamus if he’s giving the opportunity right now. Sheamus mocks him and tells a ref to get in here so they can have the match right now. He then says that if Bourne can beat him now, he’ll put his title up against him at the Rumble.

Sheamus vs Evan Bourne

Bourne comes out firing with kicks immediately and even hits the Air Bourne within a minute of the match, but Sheamus kicks out. Bourne goes back up top, but Sheamus catches him and slams him. Sheamus hits the big boot and the Razor’s Edge finisher for the three count pinfall victory.

In ring promo: Vince McMahon makes his way out to the ring. Vince says “Happy New Year” first to everyone. The second thing he wants to say is that there’s really no reason for him to call Bret Hart out there tonight. Shawn and Bret buried the Montreal incident and he feels the same way..it’s over. He said he would like to thank Bret for being the guest host and promotes Mike Tyson as next week’s guest host. He ramples on about Mike, but Bret makes his way out to the ring with no music. Bret makes his way out to the ring and a loud “Bret” chant breaks out. As Bret gets in the ring he takes off his jacket and goes face to face with Vince.

Vince says that he knows what Bret is thinking and what the fans would like to see, which is Bret applying the Sharp Shooter on Vince. He’s asking Bret to be the better man tonight. Vince would like to get a few things off his chest tonight. First he really does believe Bret screwed Bret. Plus, he’ll never forget Bret spitting in his face. He’ll also never forget Bret sucker punching him. He’ll also never forget Bret disrespecting him the night of the Hall of Fame. Bret has slandered and insulted him for so many years. Vince says he’s just being honest and he wants to hear what Bret has to say. He’s hoping Bret wants to say “I’m sorry”. Again, Vince says he’s not trying to provoke Bret.

Bret says he can think of a lot of things to say to him, but the two words Vince is thinking are a lot different than the two things he’s thinking. He says that he did come tonight to bury the hatchet and he thinks he’s halfway there. Bret says that he knows Vince wants closure as bad as he does. Vince says he thought he wanted to come out and kick Bret in the guts, but he knows now that would be stupid. Vince says he remembers when he thought Bret was the future of the business, going from a tag team specialist to a WWE Champion. He says no one handed it to Bret..he scratched his way to the top. Vince says the reason the Montreal incident was so personal between the two of them was because Bret thought of Vince as a father. He then brings up Bret’s father, Stu Hart, and says that he would personally like to nominate Stu for this year’s Hall of Fame.

Bret said he appreciates it. Vince then says that he would like to thank Bret for everything as well as would the fans. Vince continues thanking Bret for being the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. Vince puts his hand out to shake it and Bret gives in. Vince then raises Bret’s arm for all the fans. As they are posing for the fans then Vince kicks Bret in the gut!

Bret fell to a knee and then to his back as Vince exits the ring. Bret finally gets up as we go off the air.

Ricky Hatton came out to Blue Moon, looking in Hatton’s renowned non-fighting shape. He got a nice reaction but no singing of “Hatton Wonderland.” I’m not sure whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing. Hatton said he has had some good memories in Sheffield but was there to make some new ones.

Jerishow came out, with even Jericho looking significantly taller than Hatton. Somebody should point out to Vince McMahon that Hatton’s last fight drew significantly more US PPV buys than WrestleMania. His infatuation with size has over time become something akin to a World War I general infatuated with horses.

Big Show said his breakfast was bigger than Hatton and told Hatton t get out of the ring. Hatton mocked Show for the Floyd Mayweather KO. Show offered Hatton a free punch. Hatton was going to take it but Jericho stepped in. That led to more bickering between Show and Jericho. Hatton made Jerishow vs. DX for later on Raw. Jericho and Show together then turned their sights on Hatton, but DX came out. HHH pointed out how Jerishow keeps screwing with guest hosts and bad things keep happening to them. DX took out Jericho, and Show left rather than choosing to fight two on one.

Alicia Fox beat Kelly Kelly in one of those women’s matches where they try all these elaborate moves and two out of three look bad. Kelly used a sloppy huracanrana and rocker dropper. Alicia came back with a sloppy axe kick for the pin.

Sheamus beat somebody. They had a ring introduction and said this was a one fall match, but then only announced one competitor. The announcers never announced the opponent’s name and WWE.com just announced him as “a local competitor.” Is it so hard to just give him a name? Oh well. Sheamus won with a uranage into a back breaker, big boot, and razor’s edge for the finish.

Backstage, Ricky Hatton did a comedy vignette with Chavo Guerrero and Santino Marella. Santino was dressed as Ricky Fatton. Hatton beat Chavo at darts. Chavo challenged Santino to a match. Hatton accepted the match himself. Elsewhere, Miz was doing an interview talking about beating John Morrison at Survivor Series. Jack Swagger interrupted and they bickered about who would be team captain.

Evan Bourne beat Jack Swagger. So much for that great winning streak. Swagger threw Bourne around and hit a Vader bomb and big boot. Miz came out to distract Swagger. Bourne hit a spinning kick and shooting star press for the pin. This was like the prototypical WWE match where they accomplish nothing other than teaching the audience not to take a young star seriously. It’s so stupid that it should be outrageous, but they do it so often it’s just expected.

MVP Lounge featured MVP, Mark Henry and Kofi Kingston. I’m very happy that they made a Survivor Series tag match with Kingston and Randy Orton as captains. It will allow them to showcase both Kingston and Orton without hurting either. MVP and Henry put over Kingston and they had some champagne.

Legacy came out to interrupt. Orton said they are low class street thugs and they should go back to the hood where they came from. Kingston slapped Orton. I hate racial angles. I don’t think it makes you mad at the heel; it just makes WWE look sleazy. At least MVP was actually in prison. I don’t see what about Henry (a US Olympian) or Kingston (a graduate of a highly selected university) suggests criminality to WWE other than the color of their skin.

Randy Orton beat Mark Henry. Orton dominated the early part of the match. Henry was starting a comeback when Orton reversed a choke slam attempt into the RKO for the pin. A lot of people cheered Orton here. Orton slapped Kingston after the match and Kingston punched him back.

Ricky Hatton beat Chavo Guerrero. They announced this as “mixed martial arts” rules, which they then explained meant the boxer could only win by knockout and the wrestler could only win by pin fall or submission. Hatton wore boxing gloves. He landed some punches. Chavo scored a takedown but Hatton got back up. Chavo looked for another takedown but was caught with a punch for the ten count. This was pretty darn awful.

Celebrity angles can be a cool way to generate attention (although there is an issue of diminishing returns) and do fun angles. However, I think when it comes to athlete guest hosts you should just do angles and not bill matches. Boxers doing matches has been a big money attraction many times in the past. To me, doing it as a throwaway comedy midcard TV angle makes it a lot harder to make money next time.

They did another John Cena/DX comedy bit in advance of their Survivor Series match. Cena was with Hornswoggle and DX wanted Cena to hand him over. Hornswoggle eventually came out, but was dressed like Cena rather than DX. When DX left he went back to his DX gear. They announced Roddy Piper as guest host for next week. That should be fun.

DX beat Chris Jericho and Big Show. Jericho and Show worked over Michaels, who eventually got the tag to HHH. HHH came in with a face buster on Show and went for the pedigree but Show reversed it and hit the spear. John Cena was doing commentary for this and trying to hard sell the Survivor Series match, which was quite interesting. He was trying his heart out, god bless the guy.

HHH eventually tagged Michaels, who gave Jericho a flying forearm, inverted atomic drops and the elbow off the top. Michaels missed sweet chin music and Jericho went for the Walls but Michaels got out. Show hit a corner avalanche on both Jericho and Michaels. He then went for the KO punch on Michaels but hit Jericho instead. HHH sent Show out of the ring and Michaels covered for the pin. They then announced next week will be a triple threat match with Jericho and Show vs. DX vs. Undertaker and John Cena.

The Wrestling Page RAW Report - 12 October 09
Triple H

Raw is Triple H began with Chris Jericho announcing a 7 on 7 Raw vs. Smackdown match at WWE Bragging Rights. Jericho announced that as captain of Smackdown, he will select people who will defeat Raw on the big PPV. At that point one of the guest Access Hollywood people cut Jericho off and said that Raw begins today with DX and not Jericho.

HHH came out by his lonesome saying that Michaels was home. So, he decided to call him live on the air. After Michaels said that he just read a story to his daughter, Triple H asked if it was the new DX book that Michaels read. Of course, Michaels buried the book saying that he wouldn’t read that piece of trash to her. Well, I wasn’t going to buy the book, anyway. So, after that, the phone call conluded as Jericho & Big Show joined the party.

Jericho came out and said that Big Show will be joining him on Smackdown because he said so. Triple H then said then that makes Jericho the pitcher and Big Show the catcher. Is this the “family friendly” show that the McMahons have been talking about lately? Big Show said that he actually carries the team. So they starting arguing and Big Show said he’s changed his mind and will join Triple H on the RAW team.
Triple H acted pleased, then said there were no more spaces for Big Show. Triple H then said that they would have to fight it out right here on RAW - and Big Show would EARN his spot on RAW.

Big Show vs. Chris Jericho
Big Show defeated Chris Jericho by count out. They argued after the match. It’s too early to break them up. This probably means that that Big Show shall be turning on the RAW guys.

We go to the back and the “special guest correspondent” from Access Hollywood interviews Cody Runnels & Ted Dibiase Jr. They said that they should be on team RAW for WWE Bragging rights. To that, they replied that they’re going to have to earn their spot by facing John Cena in a 3-way dance. She was alot better then some of the ladies they have doing interviews now.

Jillian Hall vs. Mickie James
Jillian hit an ugly looking power bomb with her feet on the ropes to win the Woman’s title.

After Jillian celebrating by singing, one of the Access Hollywood women appeared on the screen and said that she just made a major divas trade. After pausing for a moment of silence via non-existant cheers, she announced Melina as being the new Raw signing. She got a nice pop coming out and defeated Jillian in about 3 minutes. Did I just hear myself say - 3 minutes?

Snoop Dog will be the guest host of RAW next week. Quick, somebody call RVD. We go to the back where Hornswoggle walked in on Triple H talking to Shawn Michaels. Michaels’ music started to play we now see Hornswoggle dressed up and dancing ala Shawn Michaels. Triple H urged the showstopper not to look on TV to see what was going on. So of course, he looked on TV to see what was going on and freaked out. Hornswoggle then attacked a carboard cut out of Michaels. Yep. This was as dumb as it sounds.

We now go to Beth Phoenix in the back as she’s angry about being traded. She’s yelling at one of the guest hosts. Santino then appeared out of nowhere and suggested that one of the women face Phoenix tonight! The guest woman was less then thrilled.

Cody Runnels won a 3 way of Ted Dibiase Jr. & John Cena when he rolled up Cena after an Orton distraction. Dibiase Jr. was less than thrilled about Cody’s move. Good match. So now we know that The raw team for Bragging Rights is Triple H, Shawn Michaels, The Big Show, Cody Runnels, Jack Swagger, Kofi Kingston the Jamiacian from Ghana, Africa and the winner of the Mark Henry vs. Chris Masters winner from WWE Superstars.

Backstage, Legacy argued amongst each other. Orton said that he had everything under control and that in the main event match where he joins with John Cena to go against Runnels & Dibiase Jr., he won’t tag in. Next Chavo Guerrero was complaining to Triple H about not being in a Bragging Rights qualifier. As a result, Triple H decided to have one of the guest host women kick him. Ok, then. I wonder if the WWE writers know that Chavo can actually wrestle?

Kelly kelly, Gail Kim & Guest Host Woman vs. Beth Phoenix, Rosa Mendes & Alicia Fox
The faces won. I really wish they’d get rid of this division. There’s some horrific wrestling in the Woman’s division.

The Miz came out and did a promo on John Morrison, your Intercontinental Champion. The crowd screamed along with his “I’m Awesome” line - so he’s starting to get over.

Ted Dibiase Jr. & Cody Runnels defeated Randy Orton & John Cena.
As Orton promised, he tried not to tag in, but get got tagged in when he turned his back on Cena. Runnels and Dibiase went for a few roll-ups on Orton when this happened. Orton tagged back out, but then tagged back in when Cena nailed Dibiase Jr. with a Cena slam and a five knuckle shuffle. He attacked Cena, which allowed Dibiase to roll up Orton for the pin. Cena gave Orton and FU afterwoods.

Raw is over.
